They named it after it’s chemical composition “Ca-V-Si” (CAlcium, Vanadium, SIlicate).This variety was not of the best quality and the hunt was on to find this stone somewhere else. Cavansite was first discovered in 1967 by a group of geologists in Malheur County, Oregon.
